As of June 23, 2019, Bali became the first Indonesian province to officially ban all single-use plastic bags, straws and polystyrene in a move environmental activists hope will have a domino effect across the country.

Local newswires are reporting plans are in the making from both central and local governments to charge domestic and international tourists visiting Indonesia a waste management levy in 2019.
