The members of BGreener, The Community of Change Makers in Tourism, gathered in Bali recently to discuss Risk Management in the wake of the recent earthquakes in Lombok.
BGreener is a group of mindful, community-oriented professionals and owners of businesses in Indonesia who believe tourism can have a positive impact on guests, local communities and the environment. They meet once a month to discuss how they can support each other, solve problems and make a positive environmental and social impact.
The BGreener Community meeting at Saratoga in Bali recently.
This month's theme of Risk Management was chosen before Lombok was hit by devastating earthquakes, and extremely relevant to an ongoing humanitarian situation.
The BGreener community aims to support local initiatives on the ground, ongoing relief efforts and reconstruction of the Gili islands and Lombok as well as to help the destination bounce back even stronger.
Some members have businesses in the Gilis or operate social enterprises directly involved in the relief operations, and the community has already launched numerous initiatives with two goals:
Trying to bring a sense of normality to local children.
Here's how:
Map of relief efforts
An updated map of relief efforts aims to focus on those who need help. The survivors of the earthquakes are invited to post on the Facebook Group, use the WhatsApp number (+31637296007) and report their needs, specific location and a contact number, (ideally WhatsApp) so the Heroes of Lombok can coordinate the relief with on the ground NGOs and individuals wanting to support. Volunteers place all the information on the map, along with the list of camps and other useful information.
Initiatives to raise funds and awareness
Initiatives are ongoing, but two worth mentioning are t-shirts the community has produced, the proceeds of which will go to NGOs and local initiatives on Lombok and donation boxes for any business in Bali or Lombok who wish to raise funds.
BGreener invites everyone to support them by mentioning #bgreenerforlombok when sending donations and sharing details across social networks.
More details can be found on the BGreener website and Facebook Group page.
