The world’s largest travelmart held in Singapore reveals Bali leads in potential transactions.
The Internationale Tourismus-Borse Berlin (ITB) holds the largest travelmart event in the world every year. This year’s event ITB Asia 2017, held in Singapore from October 25-27, 2017 broke records with 940 exhibitors from 113 countries, up 11 percent from last year. At the event, around 22,000 business appointments were reportedly made.
This year, Indonesia had a 405 metre square booth with a traditional phinisi boat theme where 90 tourism industry experts represented Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau Islands, South Sumatra, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Kalimantan, Southeast Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Papua, and West Papua. There were also additional Indonesian co-delegates and tourism departments participating. Visitors to the booth were served served with Indonesian coffee, a spa corner by Sariayu Martha Tilaar, a Virtual Reality (VR) 360 corner, a demo corner by Prijadi K. and a VIP corner.
“Bali is still a favorite with 55.34 percent from the total of potential transactions,” explained Tourism Ministry's Southeast Asia tourism promotion assistant deputy, Rizki Handayani.
Other Indonesian areas included West Nusa Tenggara with 5.89 percent, East Nusa Tenggara with 5.25 percent, Jakarta at 3.17 percent and 26.57 percent elsewhere.
Indonesia’s participation resulted in potential transactions of Rp 342 billion (US$25.4 million), which is a 30.66 percent lift from last year’s Rp 262 billion.
