Bali has chosen as one of six Indonesian provinces to host next year's FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Bali's tourism industry has received some positive news amidst the prolonged impact of COVID-19, with the island selected as one of six Indonesian destinations to host the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Taking place from May 20 until June 12 next year, the biennial competition will include games at Special Capital Region of Jakarta, South Sumatra Province, West Java Province, Central Java Province, East Java Province, and Province of Bali, as outlined in a Presidential Decree issued earlier this month.
In Bali, the matches will be held in Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar regency.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster told Coconuts four fields in Denpasar city and Badung regency are also prepared to host training sessions for the teams, adding the event was expected to boost the revival of the local economy.
"Right now a number of ministries are hosting weekly meetings in Bali," he said.
"This is part of an effort towards Bali’s recovery."
FIFA has yet to announce any changes to the schedule for the U-20 World Cup.
