Bali officials have announced stricter screening measures for incoming visitors following a jump in COVID-19 cases.
Bali will remain open to domestic tourism for the time being, albeit with further restrictions on incoming visitors, according to reports.
The destination has experienced a rise in cases this month, following the loosening of restrictions and tourist attractions returning to normal operations in July.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan told Coconuts on Friday there would be limitations on religious ceremonies and other crowded gatherings going forward, as well as the reinstatement of prior restrictions on public activities.
“I don’t think we would want to open Bali for tourism without limits," he said.
“So tourism activities for the next two weeks will be reduced, [but] not entirely closed like before.
"So that the economy can still move,” Luhut said, adding that visitors from outside of Bali are subject to mandatory rapid tests."
As of Wednesday, September 23, Indonesia had 252,923 reported cases of COVID-19 (Worldometer)
