Bali has been selected to host four rounds of the 2020 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in Nusa Penida and Buleleng, reinforcing plans to make the island a Sport Tourism destination.
If you're a fan of extreme sports, you'll know Red Bull as one of the leading promoters of world-class international adrenaline events, and they have just added Bali to their calendar for 2020.
Local news wires are reporting on a recent announcement that Bali has been selected to host four rounds of the 2020 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in two locations: Nusa Penida off the east coast and Buleleng in the north.
World class athletes
Professional athletes and press from around the world will be descending on Kelingking Beach in Nusa Penida and the Aling-Aling Waterfall near Singaraja in May.
According to The Seminyak Times, "the plan was announced by Red Bull Indonesia’s Marketing Manager, Myra Carmia, during a meeting with Klungkung Regent, I Nyoman Suwirta, in Klungkung," who welcomed the initiative and said the local government would do everything it could to make it a success.
Indonesia's efforts to pitch the country as a Sport Tourism destination appear to gaining traction. Gapura Bali has been reporting on a variety of sporting events hosted in Bali including the World Surfing League Champions Tour, the Bali Marathon, the Bali International Triathlon and the Paragliding Accuracy Asian Cup.
Bali United in the Asia Champions League
In a related story, local football team Bali United were recently crowned Champions of Indonesia's domestic football league making them eligible to enter the 2020 Asia Champions League, which will also attract sports fans to the island.
The 2020 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will be held in France, USA, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Bosnia and Australia and Bali's rounds are slated to take place on May 15-16.
Carmia told local press "only the best athletes from all over the world can participate in the competition and they will consist of 12 female and 12 male athletes."
