Agoda, one of the world's most popular online travel agencies for hotels and accommodation, recently announced the winners of its 2019 Customer Review Awards.

The awards are based on the highest rating customer reviews worldwide and interestingly travellers from Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore are the most vocal when it comes to writing these reviews.

Customer review criteria

Customer reviews are based on five key criteria; location, cleanliness service, facilities and price. For a property or accommodation partner to qualify, at least 40-reviews have to be written with an average score of more than eight out of ten.

In addition, Agoda say in order to qualify, a property has to regularly use their app based Yield Control System.

Bali takes top spot

According to Agoda, 22-countries were represented by around 7,800-properties this year with Thailand beating back competition with the most recognised accommodation partners, with Japan coming in second and Indonesia taking third place.

Bali however, took the top spot on the list of winning cities or regions with 397-properties, followed by Tokyo with 295 and Taipei with 260.

2. The Kayon Jungle Resort with a score of 9.5
3. Villa Mandala Desa Boutique Resort with a score of 9.4
4. The Kunja Villas Hotel with a score of 9.4
5. Villa Shanti Canggu with a score of 9.4
6. Bidadari Private Villas & Retreat with a score of 9.4
7. Klumpu Bali Resort with a score of 9.3
8. Pandana Boutique Hotel with a score of 9.3
9. Bombora Medewi Wavelodge with a score of 9.3
10. Hotel Arsa Santhi Nusa Penida with a score of 9.3

Created in Singapore in 2005, Agoda was acquired by Booking Holdings from the USA in 2007. The company also owns Booking.com, Priceline.com, Kayak.com, Rentalcars.com and OpenTable.com
