Federal Aero Sport Indonesia (FASI) are gearing up for the 2019 Asian Paragliding Championship in Bali this August.
The 2019 Paragliding Accuracy Asian Cup (PGAAC) is scheduled for 16 - 18 August, in Bukit Timbis, Kutuh Village in Nusa Dua on Bali's Bukit Peninsula.
According to Antara News, Wahyu Yudha, Chair of Indonesian Paragliding said the aim of the 2019 PGAAC championship is to "maintain Indonesia's paragliding achievements in the international arena, while at the same time introducing the world, that Bali has a beautiful location for paragliding activities."
International rankings
This year's PGAAC in Nusa Dua is on the official world paragliding championship and endorsed by the Federation Aerosport International, which means results will go towards international rankings.
Wahyu told Antara News "based on official rankings issued by FAI, Indonesia was ranked first in the world in 2018," something underscored by Indonesia winning two gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals in the sport of paragliding in the 2018 Asian Games.
Investing in Sport Tourism
Gapura Bali recently reported on Bali investing more on sport tourism because of the potential to change the market mix of visitors and investors to the island.
Sport Tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry today and brings significant economic benefits to the destinations that host events … which can be directly felt through spending at host facilities, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, all of which stimulate the local economy because jobs are created, revenue is generated and taxes are collected, said the report quoting the World Financial Review.
But there are also indirect benefits say the World Financial Review, because sporting events also improve the image of a destination. This is important as it attracts future visitors and, of course, the money those visitors will bring long after a sporting event has been hosted.
Wahyu told Antara there many paragliding locations across the country, but only a handful have been developed to take advantage of the sports potential. Kutuh Village in Nusa Dua is one of these locations. He added that the village utilizes village funds for developing paragliding and sport tourism.
The Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and the Indonesian Aero Sport Federation (FASI) support the 2019 PGAAC Championship say Antara News.
