In a growing trend of Indonesian start-ups addressing the needs of local communities, this cloud-based solution for small hotels and homestays is based in Ubud, Bali and is already expanding to the islands beyond.
The tourism industry dominates the Balinese economy. However, most of the technology used to support the industry traditionally has come from overseas.
In a recent article from the team at TechInAsia a home-grown initiative called GuestPro saw an opportunity to present an alternative technology solution for Bali's tourism industry.
Based in Ubud, GuestPro provides cloud-based information system solutions for the hospitality industry including property management systems and websites with integrated booking engines at affordable prices for smaller operators.
They claim to have received grants from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education through the business incubator STIKI Indonesia for their project and have grown their client base from 25 to a current 100 in the last 6 months.
The hotel and tourism industry looks set to become Indonesia's leading foreign revenue earner in the next few years and according to one of GuestPro's founders Putu Surya Sudarmadi (Surya) they not only have to compete with other start-ups they also have to deal with the long-term players such as Little Hotelier, Cloud Beds, and Hotel Link Solution.
Interestingly GuestPro doesn't try to fight the competition but instead cooperates with them. "An example is what we do with Hotel Link Solution (HLS). Currently, every user of GuestPro Cloud PMS has been able to use HLS created Channel Manager. And conversely, Channel Manager users from HLS can now use our Cloud PMS products," said Surya.
