A large group of US investors will be visiting Bali and other key destinations in Indonesia from February 17 to define opportunities in property, public facilities and infrastructure.
Investors from the United States are scheduled to conduct a five day series of meetings with governors, mayors and ministers in Bali, Lombok, Yogyakarta, Solo and Jakarta beginning February 17.
The visit is co-chaired by Hartadinata Harianto Co-CEO of Stern Resources; Chief Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in New York, Abdul Kadir Jailani; Winanto Adi as Chief Consul of the Consulate of the Republic of New York; and supported by Erwin Haryono, Head of New York BI Representative, BKPM New York, BRI New York and BNI New York.
The group plans to define the region's leading investment projects including opportunities in property, public facilities (including hospitals) and infrastructure.
Government spending is being channeled into infrastructure roll-out since fuel subsidies were cut. According to the Straits Times, Indonesia is expected to spend 10% of its GDP on infrastructure over five years from 2015.
Significant progress has already been made on the Trans-Java toll road network, which has doubled in two years, while the national toll road network is also expected to double in five years.
Chinese and Japanese related companies are already actively investing in and financing massive infrastructure projects in Indonesia.
Through its Belt and Road Initiative, China, for example, is helping to build and finance the USD 5 billion Jakarta-Bandung medium-speed railway while Japan is funding the USD 8 billion Jakarta-Surabaya railway.
According to Tempo the US group have a particular interest in the Mandalika special economic zone in Lombok, which has already received investment commitments worth IDR 12.7 trillion.
If all goes to plan the investor group will also meet directly with President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace to discuss their desire to invest in Indonesia.
At the end of the visit on 23 February, the group will meet with key ministers including the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti; the Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya; the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ignatius Jonan; the Minister of Health, F. Moeloek; and the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi.
