Local tourism may recommence in Bali as early as next month, following the announcement of a proposed schedule by Governor Wayan Koster.
Further details have been released on what the road ahead could look like for Bali's tourism industry, with Governor Wayan Koster unveiling a rough schedule starting from next month.
In a statement, Mr Koster said the three-phase plan would commence July 9, with the opening of tourism specifically for the movement of local Balinese communities and certain sectors.
If the situation is conducive, he said, then it will continue for domestic tourists in August, followed by international tourists n September.
According to Coconuts Bali, Mr Koster told reporters the dates were not set in stone.
"Once again I emphasize, this is just square off, not a schedule that will definitely be implemented," he said.
"So whether or not this is carried out will greatly depend on the situation and the dynamics of the development of Covid-19 in the field, especially local transmission in Bali."
In a written statement, he added Bali applied the precautionary principle related to the opening of this tourism.
"At this time, Bali is focusing on handling Covid-19," he said.
"Moreover, currently the trend of local transmission cases is increasing.
"If without caution it is feared that a second wave will occur which will be more difficult to handle. ,
"The stages are part of the design of the protocol to face the new life order (new normal)."
