Indonesian Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir has reportedly raised the possibility of developing Bali's medical tourism capabilities during a recent television appearance.
Bali's potential as a medical tourism destination has again been put in the spotlight, with an Indonesian Minister making comments about the island's future during a TV appearance.
Coconuts Bali reports Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir said the island could "be on par with Singapore" while appearing on a program that aired on Metro TV last week.
“This will be the destination for Indonesians who used to go to Singapore (or) Malaysia for check up, they can just go to Bali instead," he reportedly said.
It comes after the Maritime Affairs and Investment Ministry announced in August they were studying the potential of developing medical tourism.
According to Coconuts Bali Erick said that tourism can be synergized with health services, further adding that Bali can also be turned into a training center for doctors and nurses.
“We hope that it can turn into a training centre for our doctors and nurses so that we can upgrade our services and quality in terms of health,” he said.
